Construction:

In both the SP2000 and SP4000 both you and your passengers are surrounded by an ultra strong and fully welded steel safety frame, providing roll-over protection and an ultra rigid, aerodynamic platform, that is capable of loads way beyond that which you will experience in flight. The exterior control surface of the SP2000 is a welded steel fuselage with a non structural composite body, and the wings are full aluminium construction with composite control surfaces.

Safety: Our major point of difference over our competitors is the safety of our SP airframe. In the SP2000 or  SP4000, both you and your passengers are surrounded by an ultra strong and fully welded steel safety frame providing roll-over protection and an ultra rigid aerodynamic platform that is capable of loads way beyond that which you will experience in flight.

Style:  We believe the SP styling is beyond industry standard; sure, a bubble-type canopy looks  a little more hi-tech or sporty, but our gull wing doors and sleek windscreen, combined with our cockpit’s interior lining, gives the SP2000 and SP4000 the feel of a much more expensive GA aircraft. Not to mention the sun protection and optimal cockpit temperatures if you spend a lot of time in the sky!

Performance: With a large roomy aircraft like the SP2000 or SP4000, we cruise at 115 to 118 kts at 75% power with the Rotax 100 hp (28” MAP or 5,200 rpm) using less than 20L/hr of mogas, (the SP-4000 will give you similar performance), but open the throttle on an IO-360 Lycoming and we estimate a cruise of 150 kts will be achieved using about 30 to 35 l/hr.

Registration: Applicable to the 2 seat SP2000, this aircraft, built as a kit; can be approved in the LSA Commercial Category so commercial flight training can be carried out with either VH or RAAus schools. (conditions apply).

In the long term, this translates to a way better re-sale value.

The Australian LightWing’s GR-LSA Aircraft combines the design features of our Australian Work Horse – The SPORT 2000, with the larger fuselage and cockpit size features of the SP2000. The GR-LSA aircraft is a 2 seat/high wing/tail wheel aircraft – the perfect option for for farm work, surveying and slower, safe flight training; with the added bonus of the larger Australian LightWing SP2000 Pilot Protection Frame. Offering room to move- No need to fold yourself into a shoebox if this is your office in the sky.

The wings of the GR-LSA are a hybrid design, utilising aspects from both the fabric covered wings of the SPORT 2000, and the faster wing section of the SP2000.

Of course, the GR-LSA features the signature Australian LightWing sleek body and flying surfaces, which have been designed with style, class and exceptional aerodynamics in mind.

The GR-LSA Aircraft is available in Nose Wheel or Tail wheel configuration, as are almost all of the LightWing range, with registration as LSA Category or GA Category.

The GR-LSA is available as Factory Built only, at this stage. We have a range of SP4000 Kit’s available if you’re that way inclined.

The The SPORT 2000 is stylish, state-of-the-art and attractive. The body is sleek and aerodynamically clean, resulting in less power being used to propel the aircraft, resulting in less fuel burn, longer range and lower operating costs.

Our fully built aircraft are certificated to the LSA standard and can carry either VH or RA-Aus registration. In both the tail wheel version (the GR-912) and the nose wheel version, the ALW SPORT 2000 is a super user-friendly high wing monoplane. Construction consists of a riveted alloy wing partly covered with aircraft fabric (part alloy), combined with a welded, light weight steel fuselage – also part composite, part fabric covered. The welded steel fuselage provides a high degree of protection in the event of an accident, while the slow stall speed (35kts) reduces momentum, adding to safety.

Economical Cruise Speed is 75 kts for both aircraft and a maximum cruise speed is 85 kts.

Range is a little over three hours, with two wing-mounted fuel tanks of 30L each. Both the SPORT 2000 and the GR-912 are designed to meet some of the highest standards in the world.

Nick Hughes maintains the fastest backup and parts service possible; we make the parts onsite so it’s simply not possible to be out of stock of any parts, small or large. “Buying Australian” needs to be  taught at school if we are to build our Aussie technology base. I don’t believe there is a LightWing internet support group, a sound indication that factory support is 100% effective.
